Cold, heat, wind, hairstyles... Our hair is constantly under attack, and we're surprised to find it dull, brittle and split... Our hair, like our skin, needs care 🫶🏼 and even more so if it's long...
What specific care do we need ? What special gestures should we apply ? Here are our tips and advice :
1. Regular trimming
You want to let your hair grow and you tell yourself you shouldn't touch it ? Sounds obvious, but it's not the best way to achieve your goal...
Trimming your ends every 2 or 3 months will help eliminate split ends and prevent them from growing back. Clean ends are less likely to break, which helps hair retain its length longer. So regular trimming, even if you want to let your hair grow, is an excellent way to guarantee its health and length.
2. Don't wash your hair too often
We wash our hair every day, so it seems obvious to wash our hair regularly too, to keep it from getting dirty. However, this is not recommended, as washing your hair too often eliminates the protective sebum (a natural oil produced by the scalp that moisturizes and protects the hair), condemning your hair to dryness or even greasiness over time. It is therefore generally advisable to wash your hair every 2 or 3 days.
What if I do sport every day ? If I go to the seaside or swimming pool a lot ? You don't have to shampoo your hair every time you return, but you can simply rinse it thoroughly with clear water to remove salt, chlorine and perspiration.
3. Wash with a hair-friendly shampoo
It's best to use a shampoo without harsh sulfates. Sulfates ? Sulfates are effective cleansing agents that produce lather. In itself, if it cleans and lathers, I don't see what the problem is... The problem is that some can be aggressive, very chemical, and don't just remove dirt, but also sebum. As a result, they dry out the hair and scalp, making it dry and brittle, especially for people with sensitive, curly or color-treated hair...
To avoid this, it's best to choose shampoos with gentler cleansing agents. The shampoos we offer at Bright and Bio use SCS (Sodium Coco Sulfate) and Decyl Glucoside, two plant-derived, non-polluting surfactants that help protect your scalp while maintaining a light, creamy lather.
4. Regularly apply natural care products with targeted actions (moisturizing, nutrition...)
The first thing you can do is simply accompany your shampoo with a conditioner, which is essential for caring for your ends, nourishing them and making them easy to detangle. The conditioner we offer at Bright and Bio is also a care product, formulated with active ingredients such as plant oils and butters, to nourish and repair the lengths, with a sheathing action on the hair fiber.
Many traditional conditioners promise immediate effects (shine, silkiness...), and indeed, the effects are quickly visible... Because they use synthetic silicone. It shines hair, smoothes it and repairs split ends. Great ! But as you can imagine, it's all smoke and mirrors... Because in reality, this silicone will form a kind of film around the hair that will only hide imperfections, prevent care products from penetrating the fiber, and end up suffocating the hair. The shiny, silky effect will only last a short time...
You can also incorporate a daily mask into your hair routine, based on natural ingredients such as egg, honey, avocado or camelina extract, which can help repair and revitalize your lengths.
Finally, you can also deeply moisturize your lengths and ends with vegetable oil baths - argan, castor, coconut, sunflower... If your hair is well moisturized, it's less likely to split... The 3-in-1 oil you'll find at Bright and Bio is ideal for finishing a routine, after shampoo and conditioner, to be applied to lengths and split ends only.
5. Protect your hair from heat
It's easiest to let your hair dry naturally, but if you must use a heating appliance, remember to always apply a heat protectant beforehand, to minimize damage.
6. Take care of your hair every day
Taking care of your hair also means :
- using a soft bristle brush and gently brushing your hair
- choosing a silk pillow to reduce friction and prevent hair breakage during sleep
- eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins
- avoid tight hairstyles and elastics, which can break hair
